Some detractors may say that golf ruins a good walk, but die-hard golfers know pain ruins a good game.

Long-time golfer, Paul Bounty Senior Physiotherapist at Caloundra Physiotherapy Centre, empathises with those who love golf, and who suffers pain and discomfort during and after the game.

“People play golf for the enjoyment, and pain detracts from that. It also detracts from their ability to play at their top form and the side effects can also impact on their family and work life,” Paul says.

A Physiotherapist with over 20 years experience, Paul saw the need for a program that offered personal as well as professional insight into the issues that affect golfers, and so the Golfit Program was created.

“No matter how good your equipment is, if you’re suffering you just won’t enjoy the game, nor will you be capable of playing at your best,” he says.

Paul developed Golfit with the goal of enhancing player performance while assisting players to avoid injury through education and self directed programs. The program addresses the physiology behind the ‘technique’ to achieve a best swing.

“Golf uses muscles in a unique way – sudden high impact bursts of energy, exaggerated range of movements through the upper body, twists and turns not usually used in day to day life. These can all contribute to injuries if those muscles and joints aren’t prepared and used correctly.”

“A strained lower back, sore shoulders, wrist injuries….can all affect performance on the course and the power with which a player strikes the ball,” Paul says.

The program runs over three months with four sessions personally tailored to address the areas of fitness, preparation and education. It includes a one hour musculoskeletal assessment, from which a personalized program is developed and implemented, a program review to help you stay on track and a final assessment and review. Health fund rebates may apply.

The Golfit program is available to people who play golf themselves, or if you have a mad-keen golfer in your family, it could prove to be the perfect gift.
