Women’s Health Classes
The prevalence and risk of developing osteoporosis for women aged over 40 years and especially post-menopause is significant. Current research highlights that through performing resistance exercises of large muscle groups it is possible not to reverse bone mineral loss, but delay the onset and slow the speed of loss.
Our Women’s Health Classes at the Caloundra Physiotherapy Centre involves 1-2 hour sessions per week targeted at maintaining muscle strength and aerobic fitness. A major focus will be on resistance exercises of the upper limbs as they are not involved in everyday weight bearing tasks, such as walking.
It is the aim of the class for our patients to develop the knowledge and skills to be able to transfer home and self-manage competently to prevent and aid their bone mineral density and general health.
