FAQ’s
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PHYSIO AND A CHIROPRACTOR?
Chiropractors mainly manipulate the spine and joints or ‘click everything back into place’. When the chiropractor isolates the source of the problem, a manipulation can give instant relief of pain and stiffness. A Physiotherapist also treats pain and stiffness, among many other things, and can use manipulation/mobilisations as one of the many treatment options available. However, Physiotherapists must ask ‘why did the joint become stiff or sore in the first place?’ That answer will lead to the cause or source of the problem and not just the symptom. A Physio will then treat the source of the problem to prevent it from arising again.
I EXPERIENCE DIZZINESS, WHAT IS IT?
Dizziness, unsteadiness and neck pain are commin symptoms experienced subsequent to a rapid acceleration/deceleration injury to the neck. These symptoms are thought to be due to the dysfuction of the joint position receptors in the ligaments of the neck. Physiotherapy is able to assist in restoring normal function to the neck and in resolving the dizziness through ensuring free joint motion and muscle balance.
DOES PHYSIOTHERAPY ONLY DEAL WITH INJURIES?
No, physiotherapy covers a wide spectrum of areas that can be assessed, treated and managed. It not only deals with injuries, aches and pains; but you can also expect physio to assist with balance, exercise therapy, rehabilitation from surgery, stroke and dizziness, management of chronic conditions such as diabetes and incontinence.
